Junior Cybersecurity Analyst Resume Example

Overview

Cybersecurity is one of the few tech fields with more job openings than qualified candidates. But "junior" does not mean "no experience." Employers want analysts who have already worked with SIEM tools, written incident reports, and understand how real attacks unfold. CTF competitions, SOC placements, and practical certifications all help bridge the gap from student to professional.

This resume belongs to Naomi Patel, a Cyber Security graduate from the University of Gloucestershire. She completed a SOC placement at Claranet, placed in the top 10 at a national cyber competition, and holds CompTIA Security+. Her resume succeeds because it combines operational SOC metrics with competition results and a strong research project.

What Makes This Resume Work

SOC metrics prove operational capability. Triaging 2,000+ alerts, escalating 45 confirmed incidents, and conducting 15 vulnerability scans are the kinds of numbers that SOC managers evaluate analysts on. Naomi includes them prominently, showing she can handle the volume and pace of a real operations centre.

Competition results add competitive edge. Placing in the top 10 nationally at the CyberFirst competition is a significant achievement. Combined with 12 CTF competitions and 75+ challenges solved, this demonstrates genuine skill in identifying and exploiting vulnerabilities.

Phishing simulation results show business impact. Helping reduce phishing click-through rates from 22% to 9% connects technical work to a business outcome. This is the kind of result that resonates with non-technical hiring managers and security directors.

Key Takeaways

Cybersecurity resumes should balance technical depth with measurable outcomes. Count the alerts triaged, incidents escalated, and vulnerability scans completed. CTF competitions and platforms like TryHackMe demonstrate practical skills beyond certifications. CompTIA Security+ is widely recognised as the entry-level benchmark, so get it before you start applying.
