Graduate Land Surveyor Resume Example

Overview

Surveying firms want graduates who can operate equipment independently, process data efficiently, and produce CAD plans that clients accept on first submission. Fieldwork experience is essential because surveying is a hands-on profession where classroom theory only gets you so far.

This resume belongs to Connor Murray, a Geospatial Science graduate from the University of the Highlands and Islands. He completed a placement at a surveying consultancy assisting on 15 site surveys and produced 12 topographic plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D. His resume works because it demonstrates both field competence and office productivity.

What Makes This Resume Work

Equipment independence is highlighted. Operating the Leica TS16 and GS18 independently on 8 of 15 surveys tells a hiring manager that Connor can be trusted on site without constant supervision. Naming the specific equipment models shows familiarity with industry-standard tools.

CAD output is counted and quality-checked. Producing 12 topographic plans that were all accepted on first submission is a strong quality metric. It shows Connor's data processing and drafting work meets professional standards.

A drone pilot licence adds value. The CAA A2 Certificate of Competency is an increasingly sought-after credential in surveying firms adopting UAV photogrammetry. Combined with a dissertation comparing UAV and traditional survey accuracy, this positions Connor well for firms investing in new technology.

Key Takeaways

For surveying roles, name the equipment you can operate, the surveys you have assisted on, and the CAD plans you have produced. Include your CSCS card and driving licence as these are almost always essential requirements. If you have drone piloting qualifications or GIS experience, highlight them as these skills are in growing demand across the surveying industry.
