Why Quartz Photo?
This is the same Quartz template with one addition: a profile photo in the header. Everything else stays the same. Same full-width header, same two-column body, same 7.5/10 ATS score, same 7 colour options.
The photo sits in the header area alongside your name and title. It does not crowd the layout or push content down. The two-column body below remains exactly as spacious as the standard Quartz version.
When a photo makes sense
A profile photo works well when you are in a role where people want to put a face to a name before meeting you. Account managers, consultants, sales professionals, real estate agents, and client-facing specialists all benefit from this.
It is also standard practice in many European, Middle Eastern, and Asian job markets where a CV photo is expected. If you are applying internationally, this variant saves you from reformatting.
When to skip the photo
US and UK job markets typically prefer resumes without photos to reduce unconscious bias in hiring. Government positions, large enterprises with standardised hiring processes, and roles at companies with strict diversity policies often require no-photo submissions. In those cases, use the base Quartz template instead.
What you get
- Everything from the base Quartz template: full-width header, two-column body, 7.5/10 ATS score, multi-page support
- A clean photo area integrated into the header
- The photo appears on the first page only. If your resume extends to two pages, the second page continues without the image
- 7 colour themes, all designed to work alongside a headshot
- Poppins as the default font, with the option to switch to Inter, Arvo, Lora, Century Gothic, or any other font available in the Laddro builder
If you want a photo template with a different layout, Obsidian Photo gives you a high-contrast one-page option. Marble Photo puts your photo on a single-column layout with a higher ATS score. And Ivory Photo offers a minimalist single-column design with photo support.
Photo tips
Use a recent headshot, ideally from the last couple of years. Shoulders up, neutral background, decent lighting. Your phone camera is fine as long as the lighting is good.
Match the formality of the photo to the industry. A blazer or suit jacket for finance and consulting, smart casual for tech and startups. When in doubt, dress slightly above what the role calls for.
The template crops to a circular shape, so make sure your face is centred in a square frame before uploading.
ATS compatibility
The photo does not affect ATS parsing. It is rendered as a separate element that parsers skip over entirely. Your text content reads identically to the base Quartz template, which is why both variants score 7.5/10.
The two-column body is the only factor that keeps the score below 8.0. Most modern ATS systems handle the layout well. For older systems, the standard section headings in the body ("Experience", "Education", "Skills") help parsers stay on track.
